Some of the titles on PS Plus Extra are PlayStation exclusives, like the Demon’s Souls remake or Returnal, which gives it a unique appeal since most Game Pass games are also available on PC. Newer games are in the roughest shape they ever will be, frequently requiring patches for basic functionality. While some see Game Pass as having the edge over PS Plus based on day-one releases, this amounts to less than the sheer convenience of Game Pass. The absence of a dedicated PS Plus streaming app for mobile is perplexing, and the quality of PS Plus PC streaming leaves much to be desired compared to Game Pass. PS Plus Premium needs more Sony classics, but just as crucially it needs to make streaming more convenient for it to truly add value to the subscription. Game Pass allows a subscriber to seamlessly continue the same game across mobile streaming, PC, and console. This may incentivize hardware sales, but it holds the PS Plus service back.Įven an improvement as simple as automatic save data syncing would make it easier for players who stream PS Plus on a laptop and then resume the same game on their home consoles. Subscribers can stream PS4 games and emulated classics, but not PS5 titles. The seemingly arbitrary limitations on the service hold PS Plus back, however. For anyone playing solely on a PS5, PS Plus compares more favorably to Game Pass. Saved data management is also more cumbersome since saves do not automatically synch between cloud-based play and locally downloaded games on PlayStation consoles. Streaming a console that could be streaming PS Plus games makes an enjoyable gaming experience even less likely. Streaming is already taxing on most internet connections. Subscribers can run PS Plus games on their console and stream the console to their phone or tablet. The PlayStation app allows for remote console play. Playing FF7 Remake: Intergrade on PS Plus was confusing, and PS Plus subscribers have a similarly opaque route to using PS Plus on Android or iOS. Both services can be played using mobile devices, but where Game Pass offers direct access through its exclusive app, PS Plus requires a roundabout approach. Game Pass users can begin a game on an Xbox console and then play the same title on their PC, and their saved data will automatically update via the cloud in most cases.
